St Bernardus are a Belgian brewery, producing Trappist style beers in all but name (to be labeled Trappist the beer must be made in a monestary). Using the famed St Sixtus yeast strain, they're able to produce outstanding beers that are the best Trappist style beers in the world. They even brewed the famous beers of Westvleteren under licence for the 60 years leading up to the mid 90's, so it's safe to say they know a thing or two about brewing this beer style.

"St.Bernardus Pater 6 is brewed according to the classic Dubbel style with a recipe that dates back to 1946. The name of this beer has become a reference for its style, and it is commonly referred to as ‘een Paterke' in Belgium, which is a Dutch nickname for a monk. St.Bernardus Pater 6 is a chestnut-brown, dark beer with a creamy head. Impressions of hazelnut and mocha lie at the basis of the mouth feel, which flows into a playful duel between the mild taste of dark candy sugar and a slightly toasted but dry grain character. Plenty of apple and pear aromas make their presence felt all the way to the slightly bitter aftertaste."
