If you've been following our socials, you'd have seen that I (Ray) have had quite the beer experience so far while on the US East Coast. The density of unbelievable craft beer in New York state has been so awe inspiring, that I decided (mid trip, in last minute fashion) to hand select beers from the breweries I've been most impressed by, to share next Wednesday on my first shift back at Ghost Whale.
My 'Taste of California' event this past January was one of my personal favourite beer events I've ever hosted, so I'm over the moon to champion beers from the opposite coast. A handful of these breweries are making their Ghost Whale debut on the night, alongside some familiar world beaters. That said, here's the list in all of its glory...
THE BEERS
Suarez Family Brewery - 'Cabana Pils' (UnTappd: 4.23): Ever seen a 4.2+ rated Pilsner? Welp, now you have. Suarez Family's Lagers absolutely blew my mind while at their taproom, so I couldn't host this event without one. Traditional beer brewed to perfection.
Suarez Family Brewery - 'Whistlin' (UnTappd: 4.31): The revelation of the trip was how much I love this humble little brewery, so they're the only outfit to feature twice. This 'country beer' as they call it is brewed with fresh lemongrass grown by their functioning farm neighbours.
Fidens x Brujos x Green Cheek x North Park x RaR x Root+Branch x Shred x TEST x Troon - 'Jasper & Friends' (UnTappd: 4.50): I was buzzing to see our trip just so happen to line up with Fidens dropping their 6th birthday beers, and this was sold out by the time we left their taproom. Featuring what feels like every hype American brewery going, this hazy Double IPA was made with citra, krush cryo, taiheke, nelson & peacharine hops.
Hudson Valley - 'Valley Beer Vintage 2023 Blueberry' (UnTappd: 4.26): The 'biggest' beer I've opened at any of my events. This Farmhouse Ale was spontaneously fermented in oak foudres before aging for one year in wine barrels. This is a cuvee blend of all four seasons of 'Valley Beer' released over the course of 2023, matured for another year before conditioning on blueberries.
Root+Branch x Monkish - 'Heart Tattoo' (UnTappd: 4.49): Seeing my hometown heroes Monkish have three collabs launch amidst a tap takeover of their beers at Root+Branch's taproom meant the hour long train journey was an absolute must. This hazy Triple IPA was brewed and dry hopped with motueka, nelson, riwaka & peacharine.
Marlowe Artisanal Ales - 'Green Wax BA Maxy Boy' (UnTappd: 4.44): Some of the best beers I drank across my week abroad were from Mamaroneck's Marlowe Artisanal Ales. Their hoppy beers were incredibly memorable, so I'm buzzing to try something dark from them. This Imperial Stout was aged for 20 months in Willett Family Estate rye barrel and a Willett Family Estate Bourbon barrel, then blended together.
+ Bonus secret beers to be revealed on the night
We only have a couple cans / bottles of each beer, therefore tickets for this exclusive event are very limited.
